Months before we get NH out of the RV

I found the weather radio.  Good thing too, as the torrential rains followed us.  We had warnings and watches – tornado, flood, lightning, 60 mph gusts.  We are safe, all the big, bad stuff missed our little New Hampshire campground.  Although, one morning, I did call the campground office to ask where their storm shelter was.  The weather has been crazy, nationwide.  A portion of I-95 was destroyed by a tornado in NC this week.  Just crazy!  Please be careful people!  I will say, if you are considering an RV adventure, be advised, weather adds a lot of stress when you live in a tin can, parked under trees, in an unfamiliar place.

Ok, enough of that.  What about New Hampshire, you ask?  NH is beautiful.  Rolling mountains. Trees so green.  Covered bridges.  Stone bridges.  More maple syrup. NH feels and looks a lot like VT, but it didn’t feel quite as outdoorsy, it felt more rural.  Not a bad thing, no, not bad at all.  And probably more due to where we parked ourselves.  We were pretty far down in the state, near Concord, the capital city.  From what I can tell, I think the place to be more outdoorsy is up farther, by the White Mountain National Forest.  Next time….

We found some nice hiking and biking trails.  One thing I do enjoy about the Northeast, they have lots of Rails-To-Trails paths.  Trains and I don’t like steep hills, so these bike paths work great for me!  We biked one the other day, it had a gravel surface.  Since NH is the Granite State, I assume there was crushed granite in the gravel mix.  And granite has mica.  And mica is glittery.  And it rained.  Anyone who’s biked on gravel, in the rain, knows the dirt gets thrown up and sticks to you, sticks to your bike, sticks to everything.  Add mica to the mix, with all it’s glittery wickedness, and you have glitter stuck to everything.  We now have mica glitter everywhere, in the RV, in the car, on us, in the washing machine.  Everywhere!  As I look down, there is some on my flip flop.  It’s going to be months before we get NH out of the RV.

The NH State House (the Capital building) has something really cool.  As you know, NH has always been the first primary.  They are very proud of that privilege (sorry SC, I don’t think NH is going to give that honor up without a fight).  To get on the primary ballot in NH, you, personally, have to go to the Sec of State office, pay a fee, and sign some paperwork.  While they’re there, the candidates make it a publicity thing, they take photos, do autographs, hold town halls, etc.  The State House has a big wall of signatures – posters, bumper stickers, and such – signed by tons of candidates, past and present.  It was fun to find names I recognized from my early voting days, as well as those new comers coming up next year!  The staff are brave, though, they put the Biden signature 4 inches away from the Trump signature.  I think those two need more distance between them!!  😊

Today we leave NH and head to Maine.  Neither of us have been there before and it’s the state I think we’ve been the most excited to visit.  Our first ME campground is at the edge of a cliff, overlooking the water, 2 miles from New Brunswick’s Campobello Island.  Cliffs & oceans, just what I imagined. My goal – lobster every day!

Did you guys make that jump, too? Water looks very inviting! Have lobster cakes for me.

    • You know what’s strange, they don’t make lobster cakes, not like they make crab cakes. They make a lot of just plain lobster! 🙂 We did not make that jump. There were a bunch of kids, high schoolers, who were jumping off the bridge, I said “Wait, I want to take your picture!” Hope you are doing well. Hi to Mark! Hugs to you.

  2. You guys are both looking good! NH does look like a pretty place. I’m excited to hear about Maine too!

    • NH was nice. I think I liked VT and ME better, but I think that’s because we were South in NH. I think Northern NH is the place for me! Miss you!

  3. Enjoy your romp through the northeast! Be glad you’re not back here in Arizona. Setting temp records… 112 today… 112 three days in a row!

    • You know, everyone keeps telling me how lucky we are to be out of the heat, but the humidity here is killing me. That being said, we have had some wonderful chilly mornings and nights. So, I guess I am in a good spot! Hope you are being safe with the heat.

  4. The lobster plan sounds good. That cookie looks a bit over the top. So all that glitters…. You two are so good at entertaining yourselves!!

    • We are pretty good at entertaining ourselves! That cookie was just OK, it was a macaron, and it was a little dry. It looked pretty, though! Hey, All That Glitters would have been an awesome title for the blog! Darn it, why didn’t I think of it?!? Hope you are doing well. Didn’t I see you had your foot operated on? Wasn’t that you? Hope you are healed and back on the pickleball courts soon!

  5. Loving these posts!!!

    • Thanks Jeanne. It’s been fun writing them. I think I write like I talk, so it’s maybe it’s like having a conversation with me as you read them!
